The Kitchen area is quite generous - designed for two or more cooks working together. The food preparation area, breakfast area, and sitting area with fireplace occupy a space 16 feet wide and 29 feet long (465 square feet). The center island is 12 foot long, 4 feet wide, and the ceiling climbs to two-stories over the island, with large windows in the upper story. (Elsewhere in the kitchen area the ceiling height is 10 feet.) Over the island is suspended an oak unit which serves as pot rack, light source (fluorescent and incandescent), and plant shelf. On one end of the island a large maple cutting board is inserted, level with the tile top. It can be removed easily for cleaning, refinishing, or replacement.

Kitchen cabinets were custom made for the home, are over-sized, consisting of hardwoods covered with ivory laminate, trimmed in light oak, with light oak pulls. Island and counters along walls have tile tops.

Equipment consists of two cooking surfaces, one in gas, one electric. There is a four burner gas Thermidor cooktop with midline griddle, located in the island, which uses a high air flow downdraft system with outside motor. Along a wall, there is a four burner electric convertible range with self-cleaning oven. (Thus - 8 burners and a griddle, total.) In the wall is a combination microwave and second self-cleaning electric oven. There are two dishwashers, on either side of a three-bowl stainless sink. The SubZero refrigerator is 4 feet wide, double door.

The cabinet maker also made a custom piece to go before the gas-log fireplace, sitting surface on one side and bookcases on the other.

The breakfast area sits in a three wall, windowed, alcove with nice views of the pool area and distant grounds. The area will seat 8 comfortably.

A final feature is a whole-house exhaust fan ducted to the exterior, located in the two-story section of the kitchen area. This is for use After the cooking is over. Turn on this fan, and in a few minutes all cooking odors still lingering are cleared out.
